Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sweet apple apple such as Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady, or Honeycrisp
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup optional
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed according to package directions
  • 1 large egg milk or melted butter wash for egg-free

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Core the apple and slice it very thinly. Peel it first if desired. Cut the puff pastry sheet into 6 equal rectangles.
  • Arrange 3-4 apple slices in 6 different sections, sprinkle with cinnamon and drizzle maple syrup or honey (if using), then place a puff pastry rectangle on top.
  • Whisk the egg, then lightly brush the mixture over the puff pastry. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  • Let the turnovers cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Carefully flip each one over with a spatula. Allow them to cool to a safe temperature before cutting and serving.
